La configurazione architettonica del Collegio dei SS. Agostino e Tommaso ad Agrigento è il risultato d’un plurisecolare processo di crescita per aggregazioni e revisioni intorno al nucleo fondativo trecentesco. La sua corte interna viene dunque a definirsi attraverso un percorso evolutivo di tipo processuale ed uno dei suoi lati mostra le tracce dell’originario palazzo Chiaramonte. A rediscovered sign of the medieval identity in the ancient town of Palermo: a tower house in the Kalsa and its historical stratifications

A building supposedly belonged to the House of Chiaramonte (or Chiaromonte) in Sicily was kept for several centuries inside the volume of a larger building in the Kalsa district of Islamic foundation, in Palermo. The sudden detachment of the plaster and some stone elements at the beginning of the 80s of the 20th century made it possible to identify the traces of the façade of a fourteenth-century tower-house, characterized by a series of four windows with pointed arched elements and archivolts with rings of broken sticks, surmounted by a weft of interwoven bands of two-tone stone elements.
